Course Description:
This course focuses on the issues and trends in midwifery. Concepts of care related to childbearing and childrearing will be explored. Additionally, emphasis on promoting mother and newborn health in premarital, antenatal, labour and postpartum period. The roles of nurse midwife in premarital, antenatal, labour, and postpartum care such as premarital counseling, family planning, fetal health screening preparation for childbirth, attending the normal labour and conducting of selected method in delivery, promoting in breast feeding, attachment and parental role will be explored.
General Objectives:
This program enable trainees to gain knowledge in midwifery, Additionally, it provides trainees to promote mother and newborn health and integrate the selected nursing theories and research in caring for mother and newborn in premarital, prenatal, labour and postpartum periods. The roles of nurse midwife will be explored.
Specific Objectives:
The trainee will be able to :
- Analyze the issues and trends in midwifery.
- Analyze the issues and concepts of care in mother and newborn.
- Integrate the selected nursing theories and researches to promote mother and newborn health in premarital, prenatal, labour and postpartum period.
- Identify roles of nurse midwife in mother and newborn care in premarital, prenatal, labour and postpartum period such as premarital counseling, family planning, preparation for childbirth, attending the normal labour and conducting of selected method of delivery, promoting in breastfeeding, bonding and parental roles etc.

The high risk screening and management of mother and newborn with complication and psychosocial deviation in antenatal, labour and postpartum period will be explored. Course Description :
This subject focuses on providing the trainees with experience and skills in nursing practice by using nursing concepts, nursing theory and nursing research for assessing developmental task and parental role and analyze the health status of mother, newborn, and their family from antenatal to postpartum periods and provide the self care approach combined with nursing process and nursing theory.
General Objectives :
This subject will enable trainees to advanced their skills in assessing and analyzing the health status from antenatal to postpartum period of mother, newborn and their family and using nursing theory, nursing research in promoting the self care in mother and newborn.
Specific Objectives :
The trainees will be able to :
- Analyze the health status from antenatal to postpartum periods of mother and newborn and their family
- Apply the holistic care concepts, nursing process and nursing models to provide effective nursing care for mother and newborn
- Analyze and promote mother and newborn attachment by using assessment strategy.
- Assess and promote parental task , attachment and health of mother and newborn.
- Develop the roles of nurse midwife in mother and newborn care in premarital, prenatal, labour and postpartum period such as premarital counseling family planning, preparation for childbirth, promoting breast feeding, attachment, and parental roles.
Clinical Placement:
- ANC, LR, PP, Maternal Fetal Medicine Research Unit, Counseling Unit of Rajavithi Hospital
Learning Activities:
- Premarital counseling 1-2 cases
- Family planing 1-2 cases
- Case management in mother and newborn 1-2 cases by approach the pregnant woman with 35-38 weeks of gestation, prepare for child birth with antenatal education and exercise, coping with pain in labour stage such as breating technic, relaxation technic, effleurage, distraction technic etc, then attend and conduct normal labour, postpartum care with family planning and immunization etc and choose one for developing case study
- Attend and conduct the normal deliveries 1-2 cases
- Newborn care 1-2 cases
- Supervise breast feeding 1-2 cases
- Assess and promote maternal and newborn attachment 1-2 cases
- Practice assessing, providing holistic care, and advising mother and family

Course Description
This subject foucuses on providing the trainees to practice in assessing and screening health status of mother and newborn with high risk complications from antenatal to postpartum period. The holistic care approach is combined with nursing process and nursing theory. High risk and infertile screening and management will be provided. Clinical thinking, clinical judgement and the analyzing skills of the trainees are enhanced through case studies, clinical project and clinical conference.
General Objective
This subject will enable trainees to advanced their skills in assessing and analyzing the health status of mothers and newborns with high risk complications from antenatal to postpartum period. The holistic care approach is combined with nursing process nursing research and nursing theory especially self-care theory. Advanced technology in the care of mother and newborn is also emphasized.
Specific Objective
The trainees will be able to:
- assess and screening mother and newborn with high risk complications in antenatal, labour and postpartum period.
- Apply holistic care concepts, nursing process, selected nursing theory and nursing research to provide effective nursing care for high risk mother and newborn.
- Assist the physicians with abnormal labour.
- Ultilize advanced technology to provide effective nursing care for infertile women.
- Imply nursing intervention designed for high risk mother.
Clinical Placement:
- ANC, LR, PP, Maternal Fetal Medicine Research Unit, Counseling unit of Rajavithi Hospital
- Fertility clinic, Chulalongkorn Hospital
Learning Activities:
- Identify and manage the abnormal finding in high-risk mother and newborn
antenatal care 1-2 cases with 2 times follow up
labour care 1-2 cases
postpartum care 1-2 cases
newborn care 1-2 cases
- Case management in mother and newborn with high-risk complications 1-2 cases by approach them from antenatal to postpartum period : choose one for developing case study
- Assist the physicians with abnormal deliveries and follow up the mother and newborn until postpartum period and discharge 1-2 cases
- Imply nursing intervention designed for high risk mother 5-10 cases
Evaluation:
1. Nursing care plan and nursing performance identify and manage the abnormal finding in high-risk mother and newborn assist the physicians with abnormal deliveries
