Boromarajonani College of Nursing, Bangkok was the first academic Institute established by the Ministry of Public Health. The former name of college was “School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health”. The school was established by Lt. Col. Laung Nit Vejvisit when he was a Medical Services Director of The Ministry of Public Health. The main objective was to solve the shortage of nurses during World War II and supply nurses to hospitals nationwide, according to The Medical Services Policy. In 1974, the school was transferred to the responsibility of the Office of the Under –Secretary of The Ministry of Public Health and renamed as College of Nursing Bangkok.
In 1993, Ministry of Public Health formed transferred the nursing college division and the health personnel training division to the “Health Workforce Development Institute” which is responsible for controlling the personnel production and development.
In February 14, 1994, Princess Srinagarindra conferred the name “Boromarajonani College of Nursing” to The Health Workforce Development Institute, representing each of the 31 nursing colleges and ending with province name. Princess also conferred a royal permission to use the royal abbreviation signature “ÊÇ.” for the college symbol and renamed The school “Boromarajonani College of Nursing Bangkok”.
HM King Bhumipol Adulyadej was pleased to confer the new name of Health Workforce Development Institute as “Praboromarajchanok Institute” on January 3, 1996, which continues in personnel production and development.
